HomeWhy LizL
Lizl is a voice companion for mothers, offering calm, real-time support through pregnancy and postpartum.
It was 2020. The world had shut down. I was expecting my first baby, and my parents were in another country, locked behind travel bans that wouldn't lift in time.
Every time something felt wrong, I had no one I could ask in that moment, and Google would only scare me. No one was there to say it was going to be okay. A month before my due date, an acquaintance visited, looked at me and my place, and said: "You're not ready to have a child."
I didn't know what ready even looked like. So I did what the internet told me to do: I searched. YouTube. Google. Forum after forum. And what I found was this: being ready meant having things. So I opened Amazon and started ordering. Packages arrived every day. Most of them sat unopened.
"What I needed wasn't another product. I needed someone to talk to."
When my baby arrived, the questions came faster than I could search for answers. Is my baby getting enough milk? Why the crying after every feed? What do I give after the first vaccine? Am I eating the right things?
One night, exhausted, mentally and physically, and in pain from my stitches, I called the ER hoping someone would just help me understand what was happening. They told me to contact my OB-GYN. And hung up.
My OB-GYN. Whose next available appointment was three weeks away.
I didn't need an appointment. I needed someone to talk to. Right now. Not tomorrow. Not in three weeks. Now.
I cried. Not just from the pain, but from the silence. The complete, crushing absence of someone calm who could say: you're okay. This is normal. Here's what to do.
No one came. No one called back. The internet gave me twelve conflicting answers and a panic attack.
That night is why Lizl exists.
